An Ode To Imfundamakhwela celebrates the tenacity of a whirligig beetle. It finds the characteristics of an amateur extremely essential for the survival of humanity in a survivalist society such as Kwa Nyama Kayi Pheli.

Imfundamakhwela is a Zulu term meaning amateur. Imfundamakhwela is also the naming word for a whirligig beetle of the Coleoptera Gyniridae family. Ibhungane lamanzi. Okay.?! Emakhaya amagrootmane athumela those who can’t whistle to catch these fast moving water beetles with the promise of teaching them the art of bending the wind. The instruction is that, upon catching les’khwishikhwishi intwana must place it on the tip of their tongue and let it bite. In the bite lies the invaluable art of the whistle. A skill that can become handy umasekunyiwiwa. But-mara-kodwa, who can catch imfundamakhwela in its element?
Only a gullible amateur would even dare to attempt. Kuhlwe emini. Imfundamakhwela is gifted with half a dozen feet and 4 eyes. It boasts a clear vision above and below its habitat.
